Which Corner is the Worst?

Use the Bookmark Feature to Find Out

If the NVH app detects a tire speed-related vibration, it cannot automatically tell you which of the four corners of the vehicle the vibration originates. However, you can determine the corner with a few extra steps on the road test procedure.

The Set Bookmark Feature

  1. Prepare for the road test and set up the NVH app as described in the Tutorial found under Diagnostic Help on the main menu screen.
  2. Move and solidly secure the phone to a corner of the passenger compartment.
  3. Press the Start Recording button.
  4. Drive the vehicle at the same speed or under the same conditions where the vibration is noticeable.
  5. Wait about 10-15 seconds and have someone press the Set Bookmark button.
  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for the other three corners of the passenger compartment. Keep track of the order in which you bookmarked the corners.
  7. When all four corners have been bookmarked, press Stop Recording and give your recording a name.
  8. Go back to the main menu screen and select Recordings in the upper right corner of the screen.
  9. Select your recording from the list and select Bar Graph to view vibration amplitude measurements. Hint: The amplitude measured by the phone increases as you move your phone closer to the source of the vibration.
  10. Press Next Bookmark to view the amplitude at the first corner of the vehicle. Notice that the T1 bar graph has an amplitude level of 0.031g for this vehicle corner.

  • Press Next Bookmark to view the amplitude at the second corner of the vehicle. Notice that the T1 bar graph has an amplitude level of 0.089g for this vehicle corner.
  • Press Next Bookmark to view the amplitude at the second corner of the vehicle. Notice that the T1 bar graph has an amplitude level of 0.009g for this vehicle corner.

The corner with the highest average amplitude shown in the bar graph or Live Data screen has the most severe vibration issue. In this example, the highest was the third bookmark at 0.089g. That corner is where you should begin the tire speed-related vibration diagnostics, as shown in the app.

There may be more than one corner with a high amplitude. Diagnose the highest amplitude level corner one first and work your way down to the lower amplitude levels until the vibration is no longer present.
